Wrath of the Lich King
Blizzard comes to the party again with the release of the 2nd expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, a whole new continent in Northrend, new locations and quests, plus the introduction of a new hero class, The Death Knight. Perhaps most importantly, lots more time as you level to new heights of 80 and explore a new profession in Inscription.
So what’s new? Lets roll through the massive amount of changes that the WtlK has brought to World of Warcraft.
Northrend: WotLK features a brand spanking new continent for you to lay waste to and explore. This continent is made up of ten zones of varying difficultly, Borean Tundra, Howling Fjord, Grizzly Hills, Zul’Drak, Storm Peaks, Crystal Song, Dragonblight, Wintergrasp, Icecrown, and Sholazar Basi.
Dalaran: New city, and Northrend’s major town Dalaran. Ring any bells, well this is the same town that you have been passing by in the Alterac Mountains in the Eastern Kingdoms, well the mages of Kirin Tor decided a re-location was in order and moved North to Crystal Song Forrest. Normal functions etc apply at Dalaran, expect no auction house and no trainers, expect of course for mages, must have been part of the removal contract.
Death Knight: See our Class Death Knight Guide
Level 80: As mentioned above you can now move on up to level 80. Ten more levels to get through, 10 more lots of talent points to tinker with, new abilities to learn, more ways to make your toon even bigger and better. Level 70 is SO The Burning Crusade, or another way, Level 80 is the new black!
Class Changes: To accomdate our good friend the Death Knight, other classes had to get played with also. Simply check out our class guides that have updated notes on each class.
Achievements: Did Microsoft by Blizzard? Achievements, recognition of everything from how far you have fallen and lived, to eating food, reaching levels, like reach level 10 achievement WoW (pun intended!) For a complete list of Achievements, see our World of Warcraft Achievements Guide
Calendar: New calendar and alarm system, basically your in-game virtual diary for all things happening, seasonal events, battle grounds etc, set dates to play with your guid and importantly an alarm to remind yourself to head to bed BEFORE the sun rises.
Money: Tokens used to purchase high level items are now moved to the currency tab of the main character window as you earn them, freeing those important bag slots
Factions: New factions to gain (or lose) favour with meaning new gear to chase after. Tip, check with the quartermaster each time you move through neutral, friendly, honoured, revered and exalted. Also new to WotLK is the championing system with level 80 dungeons granting default reputation points with your general faction.
Inscription: The new WotLK profession, read out World of Warcraft Inscription Guide
Glyph: Ties in with the Inscription Profession, players purchase crafted glyphs and ‘socket’ these to their toons offering benefits and boosts. A total of six slots available, three minor and three major. Glyph’s can only be ‘socketed’ at Lexicons of Power.
Grand Master Professions: Great, 75 new skill points to earn all the way to 450, lots more recipes to learn to
Flying: You can now fly in Northrend, once you hit level 77 and grab the cold weather flying skill for 1000g, along with Expert Riding Skill of course.
Mounts: WotLK offers more mounts from War Bears, flying carpets, motor bikes, lots and lots of mounts to aquire. Nothing like going back to Azeroth and showing off your shinny new toys
Instances: Dungeons are a main part of WoW and not much changes in WotLK with 12 new instances and once players hit 80, heroic versions of the same instances are unlocked. There are also 4 new raid instances for level 80 characters and also offers 10 and 25 person versions of raids for more people to experience them, and of course all this comes with better loot rewards
Siege Weapons, Destructable Terrain: Gates, towers and walls can now be destroyed in PvP play
PvP Battleground: Strand of the Ancients is the new PvP battleground, AotA sees Horde and Alliance teams taking turns storming a beach and breaking down defensive walls on the way to capturing a relic. Need to be the quickest to win
Quests: Lots of new quests nearly 1000, with great variety and creativity with the story of how Prince Arthas’ transformed into the Lich King.
Leveling way to slow? Want to get to level 80 quickly? Do you need gold to buy your epic mounts and get rare items?
