Notes for WotLK Expansion

Warriors have gotten a helluva lot better in WorLK. Prior to the release these backbones of World of Warcraft were slowly getting shoved aside in favour of Feral Druid and Protection Pally tanks. Well no longer. At the very least, Warriors have regan their position as the best Tanks around.

All warriors have had their damage increased (a substantially big increase for tank-specced Protection warriors, meaning they now do extra damage while being a tank), and are able to take more of a beating while controlling multiple mobs better.

Many abilities now have innate threat generation too, whereas previously only special abilities, excluding raunt and challenging shout (which, by the way, has had the cool down reduced), affected higher threat on top of the general damage caused.

This is Blizzard’s way of say that tanking is now easier — roll up a Warrior character today! There’s never been a better rime to do so, either.

WoW Warrior Overview

So, you’ve decided to join the ranks of the tough, battle-hardened, and bloodthirsty killing machines known as the Warrior, or perhaps you’re simply checking in to see if this is the class for you.

Either way, I personally recommend the warrior class to all those who thrive off ripping apart opponents with a combination of personal skills and overpowering damage – But take note, this class is not for those who want the easy road.

The warrior class is for those who want to be the first target in every battle, PvE or PvP, and are willing to bear the brunt of punishment to reach and annihilate the opposition with a combination of devastating abilities such as Mortal Strike and Blood Thirst.

However, first things first, and before you’ve even entered the game world you’ll be forced to choose amongst the numerous races of world of warcraft, and choose wisely, many players find this descision almost as important as what class to play.

The Alliance

We’ll start with the Alliance choices, firstly Humans and Diplomacy. The ability Diplomacy grants you a solid 10% increase to all faction reputation gains. Initially you might scoff at this being a warrior racial, but quite honestly WoW incorporates so many faction grinds with each new expansion, this ability’s been elevated to a nigh ‘must have’ status.

Nextly, Night Elves gain both Shadowmeld and Quickness as far as effective abilities go, the wisp spirit racial(increased movement speed when dead) is fairly pointless unless you plan on dieing frequently, which you shouldn’t as long as you play your cards right.

Quickness is a 1% increase to dodge, seemingly worthless initially, but this 1% easily counts for multiple pieces of gear bonuses at level 70, take note of it. Secondly, Shadowmeld gives you a stealth of sorts, allowing you to wait and ambush others in PvP, or even just avoid being targeted while AFK or resting.

Dwarves gain the impressive Stoneform ability, something that, much like other racials, is somewhat uneeded from levels 1-60, but demonstrates its true benefits once you hit Outland and start dungeoning more often, that and it gives you a solid anti-rogue ability on a 3 minute cooldown.

Draenei present probably the most contestable rank amongst warrior race choices, some say the HoT(Heal over time) is easily worth it, acting as a secondary bandage – Others however disagree, and I must admit it becomes somewhat weaker with level, becoming nigh worthless at 70 with over 16,000 HP.

However, Draenei also gain a 1% +hit aura for both themselves and all party members within 30 yards, nothing to scoff at in both PvE and PvP, this will be especially relevant to those desiring to run with a dual-wield Fury build at higher levels.

Finally, Gnomes, also the ultimate PvP warrior race despite what you might think at first glance. This is purely because of escape artist, a handy 1-minute 45 sec. cooldown racial ability allowing them to free themselves from a root or snare effect.

The Horde

On the flipside, Horde and Orcs, what most consider the deadliest warrior race at 70. Orcs possess an interesting racial ability called Bloodfury, increasing their attack power by a number of level x4 +2, equally 282 for 15 sec. at level 70, an undeniably handy increase. However, this also reduces healing effects by 50%, making it questionable in possibly dangerous situations, but useable with caution.

Additionally, and making them only more favored as a warrior race, Orc’s possess Hardiness, a 15% resistance to all stuns and knockout effects, what with warriors already anti-rogue arsenal, orcs stand as the greatest rogue slayers of all.

Taurens are the greatest tank race for all those wishing to focus on maximising potential as opposed to looks, a 5% increase to base health becoming amazingly useful at level 70 for any prospective tank. However, also to consider is war stomp, an almost strictly PvP ability that gives them a crucial short range AoE stun, highly valuable.

Trolls are something of the weaker choice, although I must admit they gain innumerable points for style and uniqueness, despite this their abilities are some of the weakest when considered as a Warrior. Berserking is of limited usefulness, somewhat like a weaker version of bloodfury, and the health regeneration is barely noticable.

Finally, Undead, another race with one great PvE ability and one great PvP to match. Will of the Forsaken is one of the greatest racials PvP wise, granting a free break from fear, sleep, and charm effects every 2 minutes, yet PvE wise it’s almost unused aside from specific boss fights.

Cannibalize grants undead great post-fight regeneration ability, making them exeedingly faster than other warrior races in long-term grinding. Finally, underwater breathing has helped in the odd-scenario of being rooted underwater by an enterprising alliance druid.

All in all I’d recommend you consider whether you value looks or maximized power first, and then take your pick of either Tauren for tanking or Gnome for PvP, although admittedly undead also have a strong case for being PvP champions as well.

Strengths:

Able to use all armor and all weapons except wands

Very high hit points

Great close range melee skills

Good at pulling, tanking, and dealing damage, thanks to different combat stances.

Ability to taunt enemies off other party members

Weaknesses:

No healing ability available, except Draenei

Limited long range damage capability

Limited ability to buff party members

Allowed races: Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, Orc, Tauren, Troll, Undead, Draenei

Notes for WotLK Expansion

Simply put, Warlocks are fun, and they’ve always been fun. The good news with WotLK is that now they’re even more enjoyable. Whether you enjoy Haunting people (summoning a ghost to attack a target, boost DoT abilities and heal the Warlock), casting a bolt every 12 seconds that blasts through absorption effects (care of Chaos Bolt), or turning into a demon yourself (Metamorphosis is one of the coolest abilities in game, regardless of class), each talent specification has something new to offer depending on your preference.

Otherwise, Warlocks have had their damage output increased, can now summon Infernals indoors, no longer need to kill a party member fur Ritual of Doom (and now have the Doom Guard just disappear after the duration), and can avoid having to do the long (and very expensive) quest for the coveted Dreadsteed riding mount.

WoW Rogue Warlock Overview

Warlocks are World of Warcrafts rendition of the classic soul-devouring life-stealing demon summoning class that everyone loves, or at the very least I do. Quite honestly there’s nothing better than ruling the battlefield with massive amounts of life, ample damage resistance, and the ability to bring down multiple targets at once via a slow and painful yet inevitable death.

Warlocks rank amongst the caster class’s yes, but they stand head and shoulders above both Priest and Mage when it comes to sheer survivability. Plus, due to an increasing emphasis on high health levels combined with reasonable damage, you’ll find that you generally fair better in the latter raid instances and become less of a target in PvP as well.

I find warlocks to be one of the more fun caster classes simply due to the large change of playstyle gained whenever alternating talent specializations, demonology, affliction, destruction – neither is even remotely similar unless running a largely hybrid build for say soul-link and destruction/affliction.

Sure, all builds of warlock will likely end up using the base-line spells such as shadowbolt, deathcoil, and the various DoT’s from time to time, but gameplay becomes dramatically different when you have use of a Felguard for interception-interruptions or when proccing an instant shadowbolt mid-fight via nightfall.

Then again running as an affliction build can be quite a bit more interesting, at least so far as Battlegrounds and AoE grinding is concerned. Hiding behind an obscure bush, rock, or tree and throwing off DoT after DoT at unsuspecting players as they run by is a fun way to ruin other players day.

However, AoE grinding is one aspect I see very rarely utilized by affliction warlocks, likely due to the fact that it requires either immense preparation and practice or the assistance of a healer. Nonetheless, it is indeed a viable method of leveling.

Through strategic DoT placement and pulling affliction warlocks can take on up to 5, 6, sometimes even 7 or more packs of mobs at a time, all it requires is necessary shielding, healing, and perhaps more than a little bit of luck.

Finally, destruction warlocks, my personal favorite as usual for I possess an immense obsession with the art of total annihilation, and nothing suits that better than a warlock knocking down targets in six seconds flat with some well timed and hopefully critical shadowbolts.

All in all warlocks have it great, all three talent builds are excellent for leveling, PvP, and likely even raiding to a certain point, making it an easy class to enjoy as you have no fear of picking the ‘wrong’ path for a given pursuit in game.

Strengths:

Can summon and control demons

Can create Healthstones for party members which heal life upon consumption

Can summon other party members using Ritual of Summoning

Can summon a demonic mount .

Is able to drain opponents life, restoring own health

Weaknesses:

Select spells and abilities require soulshards

Limited melee capability

Notes for WotLK Expansion

A lot of the Shaman’s class tweaking has been focused on their signature totem summoning abilities. Gone are the overpowered days of Windfury – now it is strictly a melee haste totem

The Tranquil and Windwall rotems have been completely removed and the strength and agility totems have now been combined. Restoration (the healing specification) Shamans finally get their Heal over Time and a viable weapon imbuement (Earrhliving Weapon). Elemental (damage) Shamans have a killer Thunderstorm knock back spell now, while Enhancement (utility) Shamans get their wolves.

A welcome ability fur the Shaman is Hex, which is available at level 80 and turns the target into a frog. Finally, Shammies get a crowd control ability besides the Sroneclaw Totem! Another much needed ability is Wind Shock, which when cast on an enemy mob lowers our threat and interrupts spell casting. Prior to WorLK, Shammies had serious difficulties dropping aggro.

Enhancement has been the most adjusted of the talent specifications. Previously, agility had almost no bearing on attack, whereas now it does. Intellect also can add attack power via talents for Enhancement Shamans, thus allowing for a greater array of gear options.

Another noteworthy change has been to the Maelstrom Weapon buff. It is no longer based on critical chance rates- Rather, it acrivates as a chance on a melee hit instead, making it far more frequent and useful as a result.

For Restoration and Elemental Shamans it’s otherwise business as usual with some new spells and talents to help strengthen their excellent healing and damage capabilities.

The most effecting change here is the combined spell power statistic – ir makes for switching between healer and damage roles as needed even easier.

WoW Shaman Class Overview

Shamans represent one amongst three hybrid classes, and much like the others, they possess numerous abilities within three primary paths, capable of excelling within one whilst remaining viable for support within the others. These would be Healing, Damage, and Buffing.

Totems gift all shamans with the ability to bring along a slew (4) of helpers, each emitting dramatically helpful increases to damage, mana regeneration, and much more, all dependent upon what the shaman requires for each encounter.

With totems comes the shamans adaptability, although they are forced to remain in one spot, unlike a paladins aura, as I said above we can have four going at any one time, and with a bit of learning possibly even more buffs.

However we have more than just totems to enhance our effectiveness, shamans also possess numerous pseudo-enchants for melee weapons, each providing a separate style of buff such as a chance for extra attacks (windfury,) or additional fire/frost damage.

These spells represent a massive boost to melee DPS for enhancement shamans, and with use of dual-wield you gain and even higher chance to proc the effects, being able to apply them to both right and left hand weapons.

Beyond melee abilities, Shaman possess elemental attacks giving them the ability to play the role of ranged caster, elemental shamans being quite versatile and capable in PvP and playing a lesser role if at all in raiding.

Finally, the crown jewel per say, healing. Shamans with totems and healing capabilities represent one of the most desired healers for all endgame raiding, chain heal brings massive amounts of health back to multiple raid members and renders us one of the best instance healers in the game.

With the combination of all these facets, Shamans become an immensely powerful class for any situation conceivable with the added bonus of being great soloers to boot.

Race doesn’t factor all that much into a shaman, all of our viability coming from spells and talents plus our variety of abilities make any racials almost pointless. However should you go enhancement an Orc’s bloodfury is a nice amount of added DPS as well as a Tauren’s warstomp for interrupting nearby spellcasters.

Strengths:

Can heal and resurrect after battle

Can transform into a ghost wolf for faster travel

Can use totems of earth, air, fire and water

Can walk on water

Instant cast damage spells

Weaknesses:

Most totems are easily destroyed when attacked directly

High dependance on mana pool for offense and survival

No long duration party buffs available

Notes for WotLK Expansion

The Rogue class is a pure damage dealing class it is interesting to see that the damage dealing capabilities of other classes have been upped while those of the rogue have remained unchanged, making the clear leader at the top of the damage dealing charts a thing of yesteryear. The rogue is still the king of DPS, you’ll just have to work that little bit harder and know how to play one properly to reign.

With that said, there are a host of changes for the class. First the poisons system has been over-hauled and you no longer have to be a part-time alchemist and muck around with vials and herbs, you can simply purchase ready made potions from vendors. In addition Vanish no longer requires the flash powder reagent and lock picking and disarm no longer require thieves’ tools.

Crowd control has been improved with Sap making it apply able to a wider range of foes. In addition at level 80 the rogue gets an Area of Effect ability, Fan of Knives, a great benefit in multi mob situations.

WoW Rogue Class Overview

If you happen to roll a rogue, then you will truly enter a world unlike any other in World of Warcraft. The rogue, perhaps with the exception of the druid, is one of discovery, a world of stealth, mystery and great PvE and PvP battles. Stealth alone is something that sets the rogue apart, this one ability changes the way you approach any raid, Arena or Battleground.

The rogue is one of the most popular classes to play for the reasons outlined above, and playing a rogue is one of the most rewarding classes to play as you deal out massive DPS, but you need to be able to play the class right. One of the main points about the rogue is decided well before you even start a the low level of 1, what race of roll should you roll and what benefits does each provide?

Alliance Races

The first alliance race we’ll cover is human. A race made up entirely of either bulky very muscular males or verluptous females, either way, for a rogue neither seem to look the part. You’ll never notice the 10% increase passive racial trait, whereas the Diplomacy is quote a step up, offering another 10% bonus and with Outland being one massive faction it cannot hurt to have it.

Perception is an excellent addition as the increase to stealth detection allows you to become an effective scout in PvP, especially as Arena teams have a rogue 90% of the time. Finally we have an increase to swords and mace skills an extact five points, so can’t hurt.

Night Elves, perhaps the most popular race for rogue, even with the fact this is possesses the worst racial traits, being a free stealth inferior quality and only a 1% increase to dodge. Finally, the ghost speed run, who really wants to be dead anyway, and if you play the rogue right, you should not be needing it.

The only noteable racial trait for Dwarves is stoneform and can be useful in PvP situations

Last, the gnomes, which can be argued to be the greatest alliance PvP race due to the single trait of escape artist, all the problems of other melee classes bundled into one snare breaking ability.

Horde Races

Lets start with trolls, who still have the worst racial traits in the game with regeneration. Beserking is a slight improvement an ability costing energy to improve attack speed, not totally useless, but not fantastic for a rogue either. Beastslaying provides a 5% bonus to all damage when attacking beasts, again not totally useless given the amount of beasts present, and you will need to kill in the game.

Throwing specialization 1% increase to critical chace, not as helpful as it sounds if you use deadly throw more often then you really should.

Orcs however have a larger amount of the good horde racial abilities, namely blood fury and hardness both which serve rogue well. Blood fury is a good talent for improving DPS and hardnesss if the perfect rogue counter giving 15% resistance to stun and knockout effects. This comes in very handy when fighting other rogues.

The Undead are a certain sight on the PvP field with their Will of the Forsaken, racial trait that grants temporary immunity to fear, sleep and charm as well as breaking any already present effects. Good for fighting against Warlocks and Priests.

Cannibalize, just good to rub it in when you kill someone and is a great leveling regeneration talent. Underwater breathing, nothing special for a rogue here, except I guess if you simply just a good snorkle.

The final race to cover on the horde side is Blood Elves, gaining a possibly useful 10 point increase to enchanting, an improvement of five to all resistances, and finally Mana Tap/Arcane Torrent, the real gems.

Arcane Torrent allows you to instantly cast an AoE silence lasting two seconds and affecting all within eight yards, at least that is if it isn’t resisted which is more likely to happen than not, probably about a 3 or 4 out of 10 chance of it working properly.

Strengths:

Stealth ability allows the rogue to reach more places easily then any other class

Can create and use poisons to damage and slow enemies

Very high melee damage potential (The key word here is potential!)

Can pick locks, you’ll find yourself in demand to open lock boxes etc.

Very good at escaping battle with sprint, vanshi and blind

Weaknesses:

No party buffs available

Restricted to wearing cloth and leather armour

No healing ability avaliable

Allowed races: Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, Orc, Troll, Undead, Blood Elf

Equipment: Cloth, Leather

Notes for WotLK Expansion

The priest has been the most affected by spell power changes and still remain the most diverse healing class and thereofre the simply the best healers in WotLK. So essentially, it is business as usual. With the new Shadow talent tree and buffed abilities they Priests are now much more effective at DPS, so don’t assume the priest is the automatic healer in group situations.

The other major change is the removal of the Priest racial spells. Desperate Prayer racial ability, which heals the priest instantly, is now available to all races through talents and takes the place where Holy Nova used to be.

Holy Nova has been chaged to be a spell for all party members and is among the baseline abilities along with Hymn of Hope and Devouring Plague.

Mentioning the talent tree the Discipline tree has recieved the most attention with focus on healing as well as shield, spirit and general buffs and effects for party or raid.

WoW Priest Class Overview

Along with the Warrior, Rogue, Mage and Paladin the Priest is a mainstay of MMORPGs. The great aspect in World of Warcraft however is that they have allowed the Priest to play a more expansive role and is simply not pigeonholed as a healer and has excellent damage capabilities. In WoW, the Priest has become one of the best leveling characters and faster killing classes around which is great of party situations and can fulfill a unique role instead of simply being lost amongst Paladins and Druids

If rolling a priest the ‘discipline’ tree is your friend as it provides everything required to toughen your character up and complements the defensive tools such as Power Word: Shield, Psychic Scream and the Area of Effect Fear. Watch out in PVP situations through, as you will often get targetted first as the best healing class in the game, take you out and the longevity of the rest of your group goes down the drain.

If you roll shadow this is not so much of an issue as a shadow priest can’t heal and they move onto the next target, like a Paladin or Druid. So if you are up against a priest and you see that they throw fear at you, don’t instanty start laying into them, perhaps look for the next best target.

Keep in mind even if you are a shadow priest with death incarnate, stealer of life and the like, you still have holy spells. Even though shadow form prevents you from casting healing spells, you can always switch out to save a team member and quite possibly save the fight as opposed to continuing to mindlessly DPS like many others.

The most powerful priest, whether they are discipline, holy, or shadow, will be the one who knows when and where to heal, damage, and shield others. Only by utilizing all your abilities will you find yourself bringing the class to its maximum potential, anything else is a waste of perfectly good spells. This is what makes the Priest class one of the most difficult, but also rewarding classes to play.

Strengths:

Able to heal parties members and can resurrect after battle

Can shield party members from damage

Has very powerful buffs

Can charm humanoids and fear enemies

Can cast both Holy and Shadow spells

Weaknesses:

Can only wear cloth armour

Poor melee abilities and has low hit points

Requires concentration to reflexes to heal party members, not for the faint hearted in the heat of battle

Allowed races: Human, Blood Elf, Draenei, Dwarf, Night Elf, Troll, Undead

Notes for WotLK Expansion

Paladin players rejoice, again – of all the classes in the game the Paladin has benefited the most from WotLK. The words, ‘God-like’ have been those thrown around, or just simply now an OP (Overipowered) class, particularly so with a damage dealing Retribution Paladin.

The largest change has been reserved for the Judgement and Seal system, making for large amounts of potential damage. There are now three Judgements to choose from and Paladins no longer have to cast a seal first and then have this deal judged to bring about the most effect. The seals themselves still work along the same lines as their predecessors and are cast on the Paladin to give a certain benefical effect. When you combine this with the Concecrate Area of Effect ability they are very deadly.

Now, before you can and start deleting all your other characters and roll nothing but Paladins, they didn’t escape some scaling back. The Holy talent tree was the most affected with some healing capabilities reduced, but still remain decent healers especially in groups situations.

Overall, Paladins still remain one of the most powerful and therefore desireable class in World of Warcraft.

WoW Paladin Class Overview

Paladins are one of the most iconic figures in fantasy history holding a place in virtaully every fantasy world created with their command over the power of light and holiness and World of Warcraft has embraced the Paladin with open arms

With the utilization of the “Seals system”, blessings and aura’s the Paladin can bring assistance in almost any situation while still being being about to fill out many roles, be it Tank, Healer of simply laying down damange.

The Retribution paladins with it’s offensive capabilities have become great for raiding parties and are valueable on arena teams where once they were really only seen as a healer.

Holy Paladins have suffered a bit for this, and unused in place of Shamans and Druids mainly due to the inability to heal on the run and total lack of Area of Effect abilities that priests possess.

The Paladin in most cases, as is befitting of the class, remains a very balanced one being able to take on most roles with some degree of success, which is further enchanged by having gear and equipment to fully complete any role.

One thing a paladin won’t need to worry about is race, at least for the large part, as racials don’t really come into play here like priests, rather each side – Alliance and Horde – possess seal spell unique to them, Vengeance for Alliance, Blood for Horde.

Strengths:

Can wear the heavist armour and use the most weapons

Able to heal parties members and can resurrect after battle

Can cast Aruras and Blessings that provide useful buffs for other players

Can Summon a Warhorse mount

Can sacrifice self for the sake of the party to save the group

Weaknesses:

Deepends heavily on mana for both offensive and defensive capabilities

No ranged capabilities, except to stop wounded enemies from fleeing

Has limited abilities to draw enemy attackes

Allowed races: Human, Blood Elf, Draenei, Dwarf

Equipment: Mail, Leather, Cloth, Shields, and Plate (with training)

Weapons: One- and Two-handed Maces, One- and Two-handed Swords (with training), One- and Two-handed Axes, Polearms (with training)

If you have ever played ‘World in Conflict’ you’ll know about tactical nukes, well Mages are the tactical nukes of World of Warcraft. Before WotLK Mages were a powerful class and nothing has really changed on this front, just some nice new offensive capabilities.

The new Frost Bolt spell can damage both Frost-immune and Fire-immune targets at the same time and there are also talent improvements regardless of the specification you have chosen.

Mirror Image is perhaps the most notable addition to the Mage’s bag of tricks, this is a spell where the mage and make three copies of him or herself to defeat foes. These mirror images act similar to a hunters pet, set on aggression, somewhat uncontrollable but deal of a heap of damage.

Mages have access to Portal and Teleport spells, making it easy to move around the Azeroth, Outland and the new Dalaran at level 71 and at level 74 you can tag some friendsalong with you with the upgrade to the portal spell.

As conjured food and water is vital to a Mage this has also seen an upgrade with a new level added, similar to mana biscut it replenishes mana and health in one shot, but you need to be level 75

WoW Mage Class Overview

Mages, the users of the elements, fire, frost and the arcane to vanquish their foes. The class that excels in dealing damage from afar, if you get into melee you are on your way to the graveyard.

Because of the large amount of damage dealt, one of the main challenges when playing a mage is managing monster hate, that is if you do to much damage the monsters focus will come on you, particularly for area of effect spells, where you will need it to remain on the tank in your group.

One of the main skills to master with a Mage is managing your mana, you need to ensure that you do enough damage with an initial burst, typically something like Frost Blot to damage and slow, then additional damage, to ensure you stand a chance if you get into melee or for your teammates to assist

Mages are cloth wearers, much like Warlocks and Priests, however unlike both these classes we do not possess the adequate survivability to make up for our lack of armor, no healing and no massive health pools. Instead Mages rely entirely on ‘not getting hit.’

Strengths:

Excellent at being able to damage multiple opponents at once with area of effect spells.

Can escape from enemies with spells such as Blink, Frost Nova and Ice Armour

Excellent long range damage capabilities

Can transport self and others to major cities with portals

Great at crowd control

Weaknesses:

Restricted to wearing cloth armour

Poor melee capabilities and low hit points

Has no healing capabilities

Allowed races: Human, Gnome, Undead, Troll, Blood Elf, Draenei

Roles: Damage and Pet Tanking

Notes for WotLK Expansion

Hunters have perhaps developed the most from the original World of Warcraft edition and became one of the favoured classes to solo through WoW. Hunters continue to be an exciting class to play with their traps, pets and ranged weapons.

One of the main changes in WotLK is an overhaul of the pet system. The loyalty system has been removed and the confusing training points system has been replaced with straight forward talents. This is a great improvement and just as your main character’s talent trees, each pet has it’s own talent tree, found on the talent window.

In what may seem like a sublte change, the defensive setting has been changed so that instead of only attacking when being hit, the pet will know attack as soon as you hit a mob. Watch out though, you’ll need to ensure that you pet does not pull a mob that you would otherwise have left a lone, some of those walks back to your body can be long if you make this mistake!

A good change is also that now when you pet is happy etc, you will not need to feed it anywhere near as often, so you don’t need to go around filling you valuable slots with food and can keep them clear for loot.

There are also some useful non-pet updates also. Aspect of the Viper, which regens mana, at the cost of damage done, has been modified useful for those long engagements in raids or with bosses.

Additional changes include a Kill Shot, being a finishing move and at level 80 Freezing Arrow (see you need those leveling guides) allowing for a ranged precise placement of a freezing trap.

With a simple pet system and increased powerful ranged attacks hunters now really only compete with Retributio Paladins on top of the damage charts and are now an even more rewarding class to play and is my personal favouraite.

WoW Hunter Class Overview

The hunter has is a great soloing class to play, which is very good if you are not interested in joining a group, or well, have few friends. The Hunters pet is perhaps the greatest non-player tank combines the class into the highest solo DPS class in the game and often compared to a priest / warrior leveling team.

The soloing capabilities make the hunter one of, if not perhaps the most played classes in World of Warcraft, the others being Rouge and now Death Knight with WotLK

Strengths:

Can tame and contro, any number fo beasts in World of Warcraft, from Tigers, Dinasours, Turtles Wolves etc

Perhaps the best long range damage capability

Effective at pulling in monsters and mobs in raids

Excellent crowd control capabilities with traps that cause damage, slow and even freeze enemies

Can stop enemies from fleeing

Very powerful when pet is used well

Weaknesses:

Has limited melee abilities

Has a ‘dead zone’ were ranged and melee attacks cannot be sued

Unable to heal self or other party members

Allowed races: Dwarf, Night Elf, Orc, Tauren, Troll, Draenei

Equipment: Cloth, Leather, Mail (level 40)

Weapons: Axes (Dwarves/Tauren start, others with training), Daggers (Night Elves and Blood Elves start, others with training), Guns or Bows, Crossbows (Draenei start, others with training), Fist Weapons (with training), Polearms (with training), Staves (with training), Swords (Draenei start, others with training), Thrown (with training), Two-Handed Axes (with training), Two-Handed Swords (with training)

Roles: Tanking, Damage and Healing.

Notes for WotLK Expansion

Druids are one of the classes that have been most affected by the combination of the spell damage and healing statistic. You should play around with the Druids talents and abilities to see how well Balance and Restoration Druids can swtich between healing and DPS roles without having to change equipment.

In reference to DPS, the biggest change has bee n to the Moonkin form, this form, new spells, single target spell critical strikes, which has a 2% chance to instanntly regenerate a druids total mana and an increase in armour a few of the new treats to increase damage output of this class.

There have also been changes for Feral druids, with steps to separate Feral: Cat and Fearl: Bear, with most talents strictly for one or the other, however things like Feral Charge is now available for cat Druids asl well. The Bear form has been given a substantial boost, in line with the expectation to give the Druid an increase in a tank role for group situations.

Not a lot has changed for Restoration talent specced Druids execpt that they have abilities to make their instant cast Heal over Time abilities more powerful and have a new HoT which allows for large initial heals which then slowly fade out. Restoration Druids have also had their speed penalty in tree form removed, making them ideal healers to have in instances and raids.

WoW Druid Class Overview

The Druid is the protector of the wildness, defends to keep things in balance, the preserver of nature and life. While the Druid is not the most poplular of classes they are one of the most fun, inventive and overall powerful classes in the game, especially with WotLK enhancements.

Strengths:

Transformation into various animal forms, which provide unique abilities. This also in part eliminates the need for a mount, very benefical in early levels.

Has buffs that can benefit all classes

Can heal and resurrect others

Can shapeshift out of snares and polymorph

Weaknesses:

The animal forms are not as powerful as their counterpart classes

Can only wear cloth or leather armour

Cannot cast spells while in animal form

Allowed races: Night Elf, Tauren

Weapons: Staves, Polearms, Maces, Daggers, Unarmed Weapons

Notes for WotLK Expansion (obviously)

The Death Knight – The First hero class of the World of Warcraft. So what is this hero class exactly? Well the great news is that you do not have to start all the way back at level #1. If you have another character at level 55 then you can start a Death Knight at level 55.

In essence the Death Knight is a hybrid warrior / mage offering all the benefits of a plate wearing tank with the excitement of calling down dark magic to inflict more pain and suffering on your foes. Along with the “you must already have a character at level 55″ catch with the Death Knight, note that you also have to create the Death Knight on the SAME server as that character.

So, starting gear. If you are going to start at level 55 Blizzard thankfully do not have you starting out empty handed. You get a nice 12 slot bag on top of your standard 16 backpack, some pretty decent starting gear in general but zero talent points. But once you reach level 58 by completing quests in the area you’ll gain plenty (49) points to use how you see fit, PLUS a nice ‘ol riding mount, some nice blueish gear and enough XP to take the fight outside the starting area.

WoW Death Knight Class Overview

The Death Knight is a very unique class in WoW, that goes without saying, even though I just said it, anyway, don’t forget the main role of the Death Knight is still a tank, there is a reason it has plate armour, so don’t get confused with all the dark magic. The best suited talent tree for Death Knight as a tank is the Frost-specced DK, whereas the Blood and Unholy talent specifications while offering good DPS, also have buff and secondary abilities for groups, which make these two talent specs good off-tank specs.

Strengths:

Can wear all armor types and wield most weapons

Mixes melee attacks with Frost and Shadow ranged spells

Rune system means virtually unlimited energy

Blood abilities provide self healing

Can return at will to the Ebon Hold

Free mounts and weapon enchants available only to death knights

A hero class: begins at level 55

Weaknesses:

Can’t use shields or ranged weapons

More dependent on abilities than passive defense for survivability

Dependent on rune cooldowns and runic power generation

Allowed races: All

Equipment: Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate Mail

Weapons: Axes, Polearms, Swords, Two-Handed Axes, Two-Handed Swords, One-handed Maces, Two-Handed Maces
